You.

Yes you, the one who is reading this right now— you are a strong, capable human being.

You have two strong hands. You have a heart and lungs that keep you alive— and an appendix, and kidneys, and all those other organs for that matter.

You have a brain capable of processing information, working through problems, figuring out solutions.

Yet we constantly become stuck in situations where we feel trapped.

Isolated, caged, locked away.

It’s a horrible, disgusting feeling.

It’s only natural to get hypothetically claustrophobic and try to claw your way out, to lash out blindly. But from past experience, all that ends with is a fit of despair at how trapped you really feel.

There is always a way out. There is always a solution.

The best way to get there?

As cliche as it may seem, the answer all lies in a change of mindset.

The moment I changed that idea that was lodged into my psyche—that idea that no matter how hard I tried, I would never escape—I suddenly felt so, so free.

Of course, there are obviously times when it will take more than that. After all, the world can be harsh and unforgiving. Sometimes solutions can be hard to find.

But I trust you can do it. If you trust that as well, no matter what the circumstance, then it will become true. Maybe you won’t arrive at exactly the place you wanted to when you started, but you will always find a better place, a higher ground.

Make everyday a mission. A challenge. Know your goals.

Know where you want to be, who you want to be, what changes you want to see.

Work toward it. 

This relates to just about anything—depression, academics, social problems, financial problems, even art-block.

If you know exactly what your working for and why, believe me, it will be a load off your shoulders.

Living can be hard.

Sometimes it feels like there isn’t a light at the end of the tunnel.

Sometimes, you have to create your own light.

I am a strong believer that we all have a light inside ourselves.

Remember to play, have fun, get fresh air. See the beauty in everything. Hold on to that light.

Never let it go out.
